Strasbourg Fans Protest Against New American Owners.

Supporters of the French Ligue 1 outfit RC Strasbourg protested against the multi-club ownership on Sunday during their 2-0 home win against Touloues at the Stade de la Meinau displaying a huge banner reading 'NO TO THE TIMESHARE', after Chelsea owner Todd Boehly invested in the French side.

BlueCo, the consortium led by American Todd Boehly, bought a majority stake in the club for a reported £65m.

Boehly has previously said a multi-club model is a strong pathway for young players to gain experience away from the big clubs, but it seems Strasbourg fans do not want to be a part of it.

Sections of the Strasbourg fans have already demonstrated their displeasure at Boehly's takeover in June. Some fans could previously be seen with makeshift banners saying: 'BOEHLY NOT WELCOME' in huge red letters, which combined with the protest today is a damning account of the American's takeover.

It seems Chelsea are aiming to replicate the same approach as Manchester City, who currently boast a worldwide portfolio of 13 teams in their ownership model.

However, Strasbourg fans may be more pleased later down the line if Boehly shows the same kind of spending he has been doing for the Blues. Chelsea have spent nearly £1billion since Boehly took over the club from Roman Abramovich, though the Blues have not been too successful on the pitch despite his significant investment, there is much optimism in the air this season with their new recruits under the guidance of Argentine gaffer Mauricio Pochettino.

Boehly sacked two managers as Thomas Tuchel and his replacement Graham Potter were both axed while interim boss Frank Lampard struggled to bring the wins as the club sunk to one of their lowest ever league finishes. The campaign saw 17 players arrive through the door at Stamford Bridge with no clearly defined structure. As such, the multi-club system is presumed to serve as the right pathway for many of these

 signings.
